MAYORAL elections which were earlier put on hold in Ilala and Kinondoni municipalities in Dar es Salaam were finally conducted yesterday with coalition of four opposition political parties (UKAWA) contestants winning in both councils.
As UKAWA won the elections, several CCM members walked out of the room in protest of some of their Special Seat Members of Parliament being barred from taking part in the elections.
In Ilala, the Vingunguti Ward Councillor (Chadema), Mr Charles Kyeko, won the Mayor seat and Omary Kimbilamoto (CUF) was declared the deputy Mayor.
In Kinondoni, Mr Boniface Jacob (Chadema), pictured above, was announced the winner of Mayor seat. Announcing the election results in Ilala Municipality, the Municipal Director, Mr Isaya Mgulumi, who is also the Secretary to the election committee at the municipality said that Mr Kyeko scored 31 votes out of 54 while his opponent Henry Kesi (CCM) had scored nothing
