The East African Community is expected to benefit in different ways from
the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) five year-
strategic plan, it has been said.
Candace Buzzard who is the new USAID Deputy Mission Director of Kenya and
East Africa disclosed this on Wednesday when she visited the EAC‘s
Secretary General, Dr Richard Sezibera in Arusha.
Buzzard was accompanied by Deputy for Africa Trade Matt Rees, Resident
Legal Officer Donald Keene and Office Director, Strategic Planning and
Anaylsis Cristina Olive.
During the visit they presented the draft USAID Regional Strategic Plan
2016-2022 to the Secretary General, and had dialogue on the ways in which
the two organisations can align their key priorities for the next five
years.
According to the US official, the USAID’s five-year strategic plan will
focus on increased trade, investment and food security; health services
and systems for marginalised and vulnerable populations; increased
security of populations vulnerable to regional threats and strengthening
East African institutions’ leadership and learning.
